Almost Autumn

It's nearly here--the temperature is dropping, the winds are cooling, and Emerald Pools is nearly off-limits due to the change in currents. Autumn is almost here :)

With that comes breaking out the Ugg Boots and sweaters, fleece-lined jackets, and layering up for the morning walk with the dog.

Labor Day has passed, yet Nevada still surpasses 90s by midday. At night, though, the cool desert winds are more than enough to make me reach for an extra blanket, even with the pup snuggled up at my feet.

It's starting to feel like Fall. To celebrate, I broke out a deep, blood red paint and layered up on the Gelous top coat. Here's to hoping it lasts the week!

This weekend is a short weekend rotation. I drove out to Silver Springs Sunday after work, crashed for a mid-day sleep, and the pup and I ended the night back at my apartment with a big pot of vegan mac and cheeze. Actually resting at night does wonders, and I popped out of bed at 5:30a to start rolling through my admin work for the weekend. Breaking out the avocado toast and fresh ground French vanilla coffee, I couldn't have asked for a more peaceful morning. After hitting the gym, running some errands, and getting my living room some-what together, I ended the evening throwing together the perfect pot of curried lentil soup. With fresh organic zucchini, potatoes, and all the lentils I could squeeze into my little copper pot, I'm set on lunch for the next few days, to say the least.

This morning, I woke up to the weight of my Turdle plopping down on my hips. Up and moving by 7:30a, I was fortunate enough to catch the Sparks Farmer's Market. Stopping by before heading to the gym, I toted home a bundle of vine-ripened heirloom tomatoes and some local honey from an elderly beekeeper. Still warm from the sun, the tomatoes were nearly irresistible after coming home from the gym. Needless to say, only one now remains on my counter.

The gym has been kind to me as I round the corner to week 2. I keep misplacing my water bottles and it's been making my higher water intake fairly hard to maintain. All I have to do is forget a bottle at work one time, and I can unfortunately guarantee I'll never see it again...I'm three really nice bottles in, so I've switched to disposable plastic ones. Even then, I still forget them, but at least I can only hope they're being recycled or thrown away.

I took measurements last night to track the week. I started out light last week, knowing I hadn't lifted in a while, so my squat is up 30lbs from day 1 and both thighs have evenly grown 1cm. I'm expecting some fluctuation, since I can't be 100% certain I'm measuring perfectly from the same spot, but my deltas are:

L & R Thigh: +1cm
Dat Booty: -0.5cm
Waist: -1cm

I believe the waist--I've cleaned my diet up quite a bit, so I'm sure it's just a little less bloating.

I'm warming up with a bit of cardio--2mi run, before alternating days of squats (free weight rear, front, and hack), and lunges supersetted with abs, mixed with machines targeted on certain muscles (reverse hamstring curls, sitting/standing calf raises, etc.).  As you can see, most of the main focus is in the booty, but of course all the ancillary exercises work everything else.

But that's that. My new IAB shorts showed up yesterday, so I got to try a pair out today at the gym. Needless to say, I'm not mad I bought three pairs (^_^) It will be good motivation, though. If I thought getting my workouts in when I worked around the corner from a gym and could leave on my lunch breaks was difficult, I was certainly mistaken. When work bleeds to a 15 or 16 hour day and I have anywhere from a 1hr to a 2hr commute, waking up or stopping after work for a lift is totally killer. But, 30 days to a habit--right? I think I may need to dabble into the world of meal prepping, if I'm going to make this work. I'll try and cut time corners where I can.

I think that's about it, for now. Puppers is loafing on my bed and the two other fur-loaves will be over tonight for a scary movie night. I'm going to take a book out by the pool and get a little last-of-summer warmth in, before whipping up some warm baked treats for tonight (I'm thinking pumpkin cookies? Pumpkin chocolate muffins? ....too soon??).

I hope you all have a wonderful week :)
